The park is named for Henry Beard, one of three men who donated land on the shores of Lake Harriet for a park in 1884. "Plaisance" is a French term meaning "pleasure ground." Several improvements were made in the 1970s, and the picnic shelter was refurbished in 2002. The playground was reconstructed in 2012.
Come Clean Leave Clean
The Minnesota Orienteering Club practices a Come Clean Leave Clean policy. This helps us maintain a good relationship with the parks we utilize, sets a good example for other users, and limits the transfer and spread of many of the plants that make our venues less enjoyable.
