Event ResultsMNOC Meet Results - 4th Annual Adventure-O / July 9, 2005Congratulations to all the teams that came out and braved the 90+ degree heat on Saturday. Lots of sweat, mud and blood seemed to show up on every team member. Start was at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve, after a short run through thick vegetation. Teams went to bikes for 12 miles to Riverside County Park on the Crow River. Kayaks were paddled 1.5 miles to Crow- Hassan Park Reserve where about 3 miles of navigation/orienteering on USGS 1:24,000 maps were used and brought back racers to the river. About 100 yard river swim brought them back to their bikes where they rode back to Lake Rebecca, a shorter return, because of route choice, about 10 miles brought the teams back to TA1/Start/Finish area. Then a 2.5 miles single track ride. Then more orienteering in Lake Rebecca. Lead teams had their members orienteer on their own in a modified relay style, on a 1:15,000 scale 'O' map. Orienteering at the end of the event in high heat proved to be very difficult. Decisions and route choices are most critical when fatigue sets in. Several heat related issues required race officials to make a change in the orienteering relay section. Which was the last section of the event. Teams that entered TA1 after 3 PM went out as a team, and did the 'A' course. This decision was made mainly for two reasons, safety is considered top priority so, we decided not to allow individuals to orienteer (after 6 hours and 30 minutes of racing). Rather be with a team, should heat exhaustion occur. Secondly, length of race would have been extended had all teams gone through the orienteering section individually. Teams that completed the orienteering section individually by all members of the team were ranked higher than those teams that went through the orienteering section as a team. Upon review, of all results, there was no change in rankings of teams. Thanks to all the volunteers that helped make this event a success. -- Mike Carlson, Event Director Courses: 2-Person Open, 2-Person Coed, 4-Person Coed
