8th Annual MNOC 6-hour Rogaine

White pine stand in maple and oak forest, Chequamegon National Forest

The Minnesota Orienteering Club invites you to a 6-hour long distance Rogaine (Rugged Outdoor Group Activity Involving Navigation and Endurance) event on Saturday, August 14th in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and Rock Lake National Recreation Trail, near Cable, WI. Hikers, runners, orienteers, adventure racers, trail runners, ultra runners, families - everyone is welcome. Come test your endurance and navigation skills. Go at your own speed and choose your own route. Teams will be given a detailed map and have 6 hours to find as many of the marked control points as possible.

WHERE: Rock Lake National Recreation Trailhead, near Cable WI. The event will be held in approximately 18-22 square kilometers of the national forest. There will be a remote start/finish approximately 2 miles from the parking area. Participants should plan to assemble at the Rock Lake National Recreation Trail parking area at 8:30 AM to either bike or arrange a carpool to the start/finish.

WHEN:There is a mandatory meeting at 9:00 AM, Saturday, August 14th at the start location. Maps will be handed out at the meeting. All classes and teams will have a mass start at 9:30 AM. Teams must finish by 3:30 PM, with penalty points for every minute after. The course closes at 4:00 PM. There will be an awards ceremony at 4:00 PM.

WHAT:Teams of 2 or more persons looking for approximately 25-30 controls marked on a 1:15,000 scale modified USGS map. Single persons may enter and will be teamed up on the day with other single persons of similar goals/abilities. There is no set course; controls may be visited in any order. GPS units are not allowed.

WHY: Experience the fun of hiking and navigating in near wilderness setting, plus awards for the highest scoring teams in three team categories: Co-ed, Open, and Masters.

COST: Registration by July 20th: $20 per person, $18 for MNOC members, and $16 for under 21. Please register online for this event. A $5 late fee per person applies after 8/1.

  • Snack food will be provided at the start/finish throughout the event.
  • Bring a potluck item to share at the post race awards ceremony and cookout.
  • Bring mountain bikes and enjoy group or solo rides on Sunday morning
